Xièxie! Our Four Presentations at SJTU

Impressed by the value and relevance of our work on internationalisation of teaching and learning in Hong Kong, our partner in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) decided to deepen our collaboration by having more scholarly exchange of our practices and research. There was an exclusive offer for our community to send four Hong Kong-based delegates to present their work on internationalisation in the first Scholarship of Teaching and Learning Conference at SJTU in July 2019. A big thank to SJTU for its support and generosity!

An open invitation was sent to inform all Hong Kong-based members and co-leaders of such an opportunity. On July 4 -5, four teachers, Dr. Chun Kit Chui, Ms. Alice Lee, Dr. Janet Chan and Dr. Tracy Zou, presented at the conference in a special English session, moderated by the keynote speaker, Prof. Ginger Shultz at the University of Michigan. Our project co-leader, Dr. Chui from the Faculty of Engineering at HKU, spoke on the establishment of Tam Wing Fan Innovation Wing – Leveraging students’ role as leaders for teaching, research and knowledge exchange of cutting-edge technologies. Another co-leader, Ms. Lee from the Faculty of Law at HKU, elucidated how students can become partners in learning and teaching innovation. Dr. Chan, from the Faculty of Science at HKU, shared her experience in using a constructivist approach and social media to benefit student learning. Last but not least, our project leader, Dr. Zou, talked about her intercultural interaction project which enhanced classroom teaching and learning. The four teachers also reported that they learned a lot from this exciting conference, especially the high quality work on internationalisation of teaching and learning in a Chinese context.

We would like to follow this fruitful mode of exchange by inviting a number of SJTU-affiliated members to join us at our international conference in Hong Kong on 7-8 May 2020, with details to be arranged through the Centre for Teaching and Learning Development at SJTU.
